Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: Review

December 27th, 2006 | Category: Benicio Del Toro, Johnny Depp, Film Reviews

Stars Johnny Depp as Raoul Duke (who really acts as Hunter S. Thompson) and Benicio Del Toro as Dr. Gonzo.

This movie is based on the book by Hunter S. Thompson who’s a journalist who travels to Las Vegas with his lawyer and goes on many psychadelic adventures and totally get wasted out of their minds. The movie is just a series of drug adventure after adventure.
Okay I didn’t think it was that bad of a movie as it was meant to be pointless however I hated it. I was tripping on shrooms while watching it and I kept having a headache when I looked at the screen with all trips the characters have with the gazillions of drugs they take. All the movie is just trip after trip, sometimes its funny but I wanted it to end. I seriously wanted to shoot myself for watching that movie and I seriously could’ve broken down and cried. I also didn’t find a lot of it funny while the people with me did, I wanted to scream “I DON”T FIND THIS FUCKING FUNNY”. So yes I was watching a drug movie while on drugs.. not a great experience.

Some of you guys may like this movie but I will never EVER be able to watch this movie again. For me personally this movie is a 1 out of 5. If I ever go to hell, my punishment would to pry my eyes open like in A Clockwork Orange and make me watch this film.

Little Miss Sunshine: Review

December 22nd, 2006 | Category: Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, Film Reviews

Stars Steve Carrell, Toni Collette, and Greg Kinnear.

The basic plot is a dysfunctional family takes a cross-country trip to help Olive enter a children’s beauty pageant contest.

It was funny and above average but there wasn’t much to talk about when it comes to plot. It’s an above average film but in the end it wasn’t great as I didn’t get much out of it other then a few chuckles here and there. 3.5/5 stars.

Blood Diamond (2006): Review

December 22nd, 2006 | Category: Jennifer Connelly, Leonardo DiCaprio, Film Reviews

This movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as a diamond smuggler, Djimon Hounsou as a farmer in the conflict torn Sierra Leone and Jennifer Connelly an american journalist looking for a story people will care about.

This movie surrounds the diamond conflict that occurred in Sierra Leone and which probably still occurrs today in Africa. There are many subplots and many things we have to step back and realize. The main plot is Danny Archer (Leo) going after a very expensive diamond that a farmer has hidden. The farmer just wants to ensure the safety of his family. I liked the many underlying themes that were included and not ignored. The fact that children are used in armed forces and how they are brainwashed into killing masses of people. The fact that we as Americans, have a storybook glamorous life of having diamonds where we demand them to be at a low price. Businesses creating wars. The fact that writing about the devastastion in Africa doesn’t do anything for us if we write how these people are raped, poor without homes and how we don’t care unless it’s big.

The movie was awesome with a lot of action, it was deep and thought provoking. 4.5 stars out of 5. Check out the website: http://blooddiamondmovie.warnerbros.com/

Requiem for A Dream (2000): Review

December 11th, 2006 | Category: Jennifer Connelly, Sean Gullete, Darren Aronofsky, Film Reviews

This movie is directed by Darren Aronofsky and has directed Pi and the recently released The Fountain. This movie stars Ellen Burstyn, Jared Leto, Jennifer Connelly and Marlon Wayans (I was surprised).

The plot involves four people who have their hopes and dreams and ultimately their lives shattered by their drug addictions.

The plot is rather simple and isn’t complex but the way the story is told I find very beautiful about it. The attachment I’ve felt to all four characters was just incredibly strong where I had trouble seeing the full movie the first time I had watched it. I saw it twice and I cried both times. I was so devasted by this movie the first time I wanted to give it an average rating since it made me feel so CRAPPY. I’m glad I saw it another time though as it made me feel better about the movie. I strongly recommend this movie as it is nothing like I’ve ever seen before but it is hard to sit through it.

This movie is incredibly artistic, with many techniques that just make the movie even more beautiful then it already is. The cinematography is simply awesome in this movie and I absolutely loved it as it felt like the tip of the iceberg. 5 stars out of 5! This movie is either a home run or a swing and a miss it just depends on you.

If you watch the movie check out the website: it is fucked up
