Movies Out This Weekend (October 12th, 2007)

October 12th, 2007 | Category: Ryan Gosling, Upcoming movies, Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix

This weekend looks disappointing when it comes to movies.

We Own The Night looks like on face value with a potentially good movie involving two actors who can be moved into elite status with another big film. It does have a passing grade but most are calling it a disappointment. This one could be worth seeing if I can get a good review from a friend.

Otherwise there are slim pickings when it comes to new movies.

We have Tyler Perry’s Why Did I get Married? Sounds a lot like Chris Rock’s I think I Love my wife.

Otherwise on the Limited Release section, there is Lars and the Real Girl which looks like an odd Ryan Gosling movie. I wasn’t much of a fan of Half Nelson so unless this one gets rave reviews I won’t be catching this movie.

Brad Pitt Replaces Matt Damon In The Fighter

September 22nd, 2007 | Category: News, Upcoming movies, Mark Wahlberg, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon

I didn’t know about “The Fighter” until news came that Matt Damon had to drop out of the movie and his replacement was Brad Pitt (a pretty nice replacement eh?).

Pitt’s role is to play “Irish” Mickey Ward’s older brother. I like sport movies especially where Mickey Ward is going to be played by Mark Wahlberg it gives that extra star power that will make you compelled.

Mickey Ward I remember vividly, if you are a boxing fan or not you probably have heard about the Ward-Gatti fights where were deemed as fight of the centuries. These boxers were classy but kept throwing a million punches recklessly without thinking about giving up. Ward has the respect of a lot of fans and this movie should be good.

The Departed (2006): Review

I saw this at 4am in the morning and it kept me up till 6. Thank god for file “sharing”.

The Departed has a star-studded male cast of Jack Nicholson, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Leonardo DiCaprio. This film is directed by Martin Scorsese is a gang type flick.

I love thrillers… and this had my heart pumping all the way through. Let’s begin with the plot. The Departed surround around two guys, Billy Costigan (Leo) and Colin Sullivan (Damon) who are rats on the side they are on. Costigan is an undercover copy infilitrating the Irish mob while Sullivan a state detective is actually tipping off the mob. Both these moles are told to find the other which results in an action packed, thrilling movie.

I give this 5 out of 5. It was simply AWESOME. The critics were right and this moves into my top movies list.

Here is a clip of the trailer, doesn’t help say how good the movie is:

Invincible (2006) Review

September 23rd, 2006 | Category: Greg Kinnear, Mark Wahlberg, Film Reviews

This is a football movie that I wanted to see after seeing Friday Night Lights. It stars Mark Wahlberg (Vince Papale) and Greg Kinnear(Dick Vermeil) Anyway the story is about Vince Papale a die-hard 30 year ld bartender/substitute teacher and Philadelphia Eagles’ fan who is given the chance of a lifetime to impress coaches at an open tryout. A sub-plot is the first year of coach Dick Vermeil in the NFL which should’ve been advertised because who doesn’t love that emotional coach? This movie was good, borderline great but not anything special. Typical football movie but if you look at it this way Vince Papale (the real one) was a special teamers and an old one who earned his way into the NFL and it’s a great story. 3.5 stars out of 5.
