Excited to see the Ian Curtis Biopic, Control?

October 14th, 2007 | Category: Upcoming movies

Control is being released under a limited capacity this weekend and has received really good reviews so far. Who doesn’t want to know about the tragedy that was Ian Curtis who at 23 committed suicide after leading Joy Division to much success. The rest of Joy Division went on to form New Order.

This technically belongs on my music site because Joy Division has inspired most of the current bands that I really like. I don’t know when I’ll be catching this movie but I know I want to see it eventually.

Here’s a video for Love Will Tear Us Apart:

Movies Out This Weekend (October 12th, 2007)

October 12th, 2007 | Category: Ryan Gosling, Upcoming movies, Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix

This weekend looks disappointing when it comes to movies.

We Own The Night looks like on face value with a potentially good movie involving two actors who can be moved into elite status with another big film. It does have a passing grade but most are calling it a disappointment. This one could be worth seeing if I can get a good review from a friend.

Otherwise there are slim pickings when it comes to new movies.

We have Tyler Perry’s Why Did I get Married? Sounds a lot like Chris Rock’s I think I Love my wife.

Otherwise on the Limited Release section, there is Lars and the Real Girl which looks like an odd Ryan Gosling movie. I wasn’t much of a fan of Half Nelson so unless this one gets rave reviews I won’t be catching this movie.

Movies Out This Weekend (October 5th, 2007)

October 05th, 2007 | Category: George Clooney, Ben Stiller, Upcoming movies

It feels like the only movie that is given a wide release is “The Heartbreak Kid” which looks like another Ben Stiller comedy romance movie. It doesn’t look all that good but I know it will do well in the box offices.

Otherwise some movies of note that are doing well with critics are basically released in select cities.

The Jane Austen Book club I don’t want to see but it does have good reviews and it’s something my sister wants to see.

A very interesting movie is called “Michael Clayton” starring George Clooney where he is a “fixer” of the truth from what I assume is like the idea in 1984. This movie I really want to see, it’s gotten good reviews and probably a premise that I would really dig unlike “Syriana”.

He Was A Quiet Man Trailer

September 25th, 2007 | Category: Christian Slater, William H Macy, Upcoming movies

Hosting the contest with guess that actor, I chose Elisha Cuthbert and on IMDB I found that the movie “He Was A Quiet Man” was listed as released in 2007 though it actually hasn’t yet. Even more to my surprise, the rating so far though only in 200 vote was 8.8 out of 10. That is saying something even though it is a small sample size.

Anyway when reading the plot synopsis this story gets me much more interested in it. It stars Christian Slater and Elisha Cuthbert.

Here’s the plot synopsis from many sites (including wikipedia):
“Bob Maconel, is a disillusioned office worker with ideas of murdering his co-workers. However, on one particular bad day, Bob crosses the line from potential killer to inadvertent hero — a fellow co-worker “goes postal” and shoots up the office before Bob does. Bob stops the shooter’s plans by killing him with the gun he planned to use on the others, and in the process saves Vanessa’s (Elisha Cuthbert) life. The former invisible nobody is suddenly thrown into the spotlight of public notice, he is considered a hero by those he wished to murder, promoted by a grateful boss to “VP of Creative Thinking” with all the perks of higher management, and saves the object of his desire only to have her ask him to end her life, although her life was saved, her injuries have left her confined to a wheelchair.”

This movie looks like it has a lot of potential and I’m willing to check it out. It’s supposed to be dark comedy and that seems to be the type of movies that interest me a lot. The release is TBA maybe due to the premise of the story… no idea.

Check out the trailer though:

Brad Pitt Replaces Matt Damon In The Fighter

September 22nd, 2007 | Category: News, Upcoming movies, Mark Wahlberg, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon

I didn’t know about “The Fighter” until news came that Matt Damon had to drop out of the movie and his replacement was Brad Pitt (a pretty nice replacement eh?).

Pitt’s role is to play “Irish” Mickey Ward’s older brother. I like sport movies especially where Mickey Ward is going to be played by Mark Wahlberg it gives that extra star power that will make you compelled.

Mickey Ward I remember vividly, if you are a boxing fan or not you probably have heard about the Ward-Gatti fights where were deemed as fight of the centuries. These boxers were classy but kept throwing a million punches recklessly without thinking about giving up. Ward has the respect of a lot of fans and this movie should be good.

Movies Out This Weekend (September 21st, 2007)

This weekend has Sidney White, Good Luck Chuck and Resident Evil: Extinction. The limited releases are what excites me.

Sidney White looks like another movie by Amanda Bynes where the chick flick movie goers want to see. My sister (who’s turning 25) is going to see this one. Yuck.

Good Luck unsurprisingly has gotten shitty reviews. It looks pretty terrible especially with the trailer. Jessica Alba is hot and all but Dane Cook I just don’t seem to like. I won’t be seeing this one unless I’m forced to.

Resident Evil: Extinction doesn’t look too bad despite bad reviews for all 3 movies. Friends still like them and that’s why they have a trilogy out of it. It’s more about the action in this case and I may pick up the first Resident Evil.

On the limited releases we have two awesome looking movies: Into the Wild and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Into the Wild is directed by Sean Penn and stars Emile Hirsch about Christopher McCandless who donated 24,000 to charity and abandons all his possessions and hitchhikes to Alaska basically living in the wild. Being based on a true story and about a person that did something insane sounds very interesting. Add that Emile Hirsch should be a star.

We have all heard about Jesse James. The only reason to see this movie is to see the great acting by Brad Pitt. Other way I am marking this one down as something I want to see.

Robert De Niro and Al Pacino to Star in Righteous Kill in 2008

Heat
De Niro and Pacino are have a reunion after 12 years after the action packed “Heat” movie where they played on opposite sides of the law.

They are again in a police drama but this time they are on the same side of the law as detectives.

Who knows how is movie is going to look like but because of De Niro and Pacino it’s obviously worth seeing. They also have a pretty good cast going with Donnie Wahlberg, John Leguizamo and even 50 cent.

New Street Fighter Film Gets A Director

September 17th, 2007 | Category: Upcoming movies

If you have ever seen the original Street Fighter movie you know this is TERRIBLE news. The first movie was absolutely the worst film alive and it was very unmatched to Mortal Kombat. However the problem with Street Fighter movie, it grossed $33 million in 1994. That probably equates to $50 million in modern day finances if people are tricked into seeing it.

The director of the film is Andrzej Bartkowiak who started off his directing career doing Romeo Must Die and following it with DMX films Exit Wounds, and Cradle 2 the Grave.

I think the only way to get people to watch this is in theaters is to have big names actors or this project won’t sell at all. Either way I am probably not looking forward to seeing this movie. Yuck.

Movies Out This Weekend (September 14th, 2007)

This weekend looks very unpromising when it comes to movie releases.

Two Terrence Howard movies “The Brave One” and “The Hunting Party”. The Brave One starring Jodie Foster doesn’t look exciting at all. I doubt I will ever see it. As for the Hunting Party it also has received mixed and really doesn’t show anything.

Another movie that looks terrible is Mr. Woodcock starring Billy Bob Thornton and Sean William Scott. I have seen too many commercials of this genre and I wouldn’t want to see it.

A movie that looks interesting is Eastern Promises. It has received good reviews and I may decided to check it out one day.

Otherwise there is really nothing of note when it comes to releases.
