Syriana (2005) Review

Syriana is a movie surrounding the politics of the oil industry. From CIA agents, to energy analysts and political figures in Iran this movie touches issues surrounding oil.

This movie sucked for me big time. I was bored and fell asleep half way through the movie. I don’t know what was supposed to be so great about the story… yeah it’s about politics in the oil industry (which I don’t care about) but it made me more turned off about all the boring crap surrounding oil companies. Most of it were just a bunch of stories without much real meaning to me.

I can barely remember what happened in this movie and I am greatly disappointed in this movie. 1 out of 5.

Movies Out This Weekend (October 5th, 2007)

It feels like the only movie that is given a wide release is “The Heartbreak Kid” which looks like another Ben Stiller comedy romance movie. It doesn’t look all that good but I know it will do well in the box offices.

Otherwise some movies of note that are doing well with critics are basically released in select cities.

The Jane Austen Book club I don’t want to see but it does have good reviews and it’s something my sister wants to see.

A very interesting movie is called “Michael Clayton” starring George Clooney where he is a “fixer” of the truth from what I assume is like the idea in 1984. This movie I really want to see, it’s gotten good reviews and probably a premise that I would really dig unlike “Syriana”.

Link Exchange Contest Now $20

Category: Uncategorized

I had 5 people enter the $15 link exchange contest. Which is 1/3 of the original goal I had. I am looking to link exchange with a person per dollar put into this.

These are the rules:
1. 1. 1 Prize of $20 to be randomly selected by a number on Excel (like a lottery) will be given out to one person via PayPal.
2. I will not hold the draw until 20 different people have entered ($1 for one person is fair right?)
3. There are three ways to receive entries:
i) If you add me to your blogroll page, you will receive a link back on this page and will receive one entry.
ii) If you add me to you sidebar blogroll, you will receive TWO entries and be added to my sidebar blogroll.
iii) If you post about this contest on your blog, you will receive FIVE entries.
4. If you have link exchanged with me in the past, it will be 20 entries awarded for a blog post about this contest.
5. If you do more then one task, then the entries multiply (e.g. adding my site to two of yours on the sidebar is 2X2=4 or a post and a link exchange would be 5×2=10), also if you add me to your blogroll page and sidebar it’s adding 1.
6. Blog posts have no requirement other then a link to this contest or my blog. Either is fine.
7. Contest will probably end of the Thursday AFTER the minimum amount of people have entered.
8. After all that stuff above, you MUST LEAVE A COMMENT HERE to be officially entered.

Here is a look at my excel file as an example (Puteri is actually until 397):
sep27contest.xls

Thanks to the entrants so far! (number of entries in brackets)
Natalie (200)
CyberCelt (100)
Jason Wrigley (15)
Jerry (2)
Puteri (80)

Megan Fox to portray Cassie in Hack/Slash?

Category: Megan Fox, News

I know nothing about Hack/Slash the comic, however looking at the pictures whoever is playing Cassie will be playing a very very sexy woman.

Megan Fox who is riding on guys drooling over her in the Transformer’s movie will have even more fans if she takes this role. For a guy I am definitely excited and would be willing to see this movie.

Some of Megan Fox’s photos and clips from the Transformers were favorite because she is so stunningly hot. Add me to one of those guys!

Can you blame me:

Note the terrible tattoo “Brian” for Brian Dallas Green of 90210 fame. Yuck.

Jason and the Argonauts (1963) Review

Category: Film Reviews

I first saw Jason and the Argonauts in grade 3 (11 years ago?) as a movie involving Greek mythology. At the time I thought this movie was absolutely amazing and entertaining.

A few people on Spikedhumor (youtube style uploading site with BETTER input from users such that highly rated videos are actually very entertaining) uploaded this movie and while I do have issues with embedding their code onto my blog I wouldn’t have brought this review.

This movie is now 44 years old and yet is very entertaining despite being a movie made back them and with their special effects it’s still likable. A movie like this would rate as a 3.5 out of 5 but I’ll give it a 4 out of 5.

Here is a cool scene from the movie:

They could really remake this movie into an epic lord of the rings style of movie with the visual effects they have these days. There was a remake done but it looks to have been terrible according to the reviews.

Jaden Smith to be the next Karate Kid?

Category: Jaden Smith, News

Hollywood is thinking about casting Will Smith’s son Jaden Smith in a remake of the Karate Kid. I doubt people will like the remake regardless who stars in it. This is a bad idea to remake a movie that is one a classic and two just made in the 80s.

Also Smith is still quite small and 9 years old to boot… and probably not believable as a Karate kid?

I have yet to see Smith’s acting ability in the Pursuit of Happyness but it did get rave reviews so we will see when I watch the movie.

Most people are crying foul about this idea of Jaden as the Karate Kid, do you blame them?

Anywhere here is the final(and famous) scene of the Karate Kid:

Movies Out This Weekend (September 28th, 2007)

Charlize Theron
This weekend the only movie I would want to see is called the Valley of Elah. I am confused what it’s about but it looks very similar to the Kingdom but with better reviews.

The Valley of Elah stars the sexy Charlize Theron, and Tommy Lee Jones. Director is Paul Haggis who is notable for Crash and work with Clint Eastwood on Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima etc but overall he has a great resume.

The Kingdom stars Jamie Fox and Jennifer Garner looks like an awesome action movie despite the poor reviews. From moviegoers it’s gotten a great reception despite the poor reviews.

Movies I probably will forget about: Feast of Love and The Game Plan (another movie starring The Rock…he could’ve been great)

On the limited releases, an Owen Wilson movie is out called the Darjeeling Limited though with good reviews nothing standing out such that I will have to go see it.

He Was A Quiet Man Trailer

Hosting the contest with guess that actor, I chose Elisha Cuthbert and on IMDB I found that the movie “He Was A Quiet Man” was listed as released in 2007 though it actually hasn’t yet. Even more to my surprise, the rating so far though only in 200 vote was 8.8 out of 10. That is saying something even though it is a small sample size.

Anyway when reading the plot synopsis this story gets me much more interested in it. It stars Christian Slater and Elisha Cuthbert.

Here’s the plot synopsis from many sites (including wikipedia):
“Bob Maconel, is a disillusioned office worker with ideas of murdering his co-workers. However, on one particular bad day, Bob crosses the line from potential killer to inadvertent hero — a fellow co-worker “goes postal” and shoots up the office before Bob does. Bob stops the shooter’s plans by killing him with the gun he planned to use on the others, and in the process saves Vanessa’s (Elisha Cuthbert) life. The former invisible nobody is suddenly thrown into the spotlight of public notice, he is considered a hero by those he wished to murder, promoted by a grateful boss to “VP of Creative Thinking” with all the perks of higher management, and saves the object of his desire only to have her ask him to end her life, although her life was saved, her injuries have left her confined to a wheelchair.”

This movie looks like it has a lot of potential and I’m willing to check it out. It’s supposed to be dark comedy and that seems to be the type of movies that interest me a lot. The release is TBA maybe due to the premise of the story… no idea.

Check out the trailer though:
